Created by British filmmaker Bernard MacMahon with his producing partner Allison McGourty and their Lo-Max Films Company, “American Epic” is a grand four-part documentary series tells the story of the artists that shaped music during the height of
the Roaring Twenties. The creators tracked down forgotten musicians and captured the cutting-edge music recording technology that was created at this time. Recognized as what Robert Redford calls “America’s greatest untold story,” the film uncovers the stories of 10 influential musicians to reveal the long lasting effects those historical recording sessions had not only throughout the nation but also around the world. The film features artists such as country music the Carter Family and Jimmie Rodgers, as well as blues titans Robert Johnson and Charley Patton. The film celebrates the pioneers of American music including blues, gospel, folk, Cajun, Appalachian, Hawaiian, Native American, without which there would be no jazz, rock, country, or R&B today.
