Unlocking ‘Clean Con’fidence in Health and Wellness at Cleancon 2023
This year’s 2023 Cleancon explored the truths and secrets to all things skincare, health, and beauty related. Hosted by the Environmental Working Group (EWG), attendees had the opportunity to immerse themselves in a day of pampering, learning and discovering the latest trends in the world of beauty and wellness.
The Clean 'Con'vention
As attendees arrive, everyone is greeted at the registration table with a lovely tote bag and beautiful photo-op walls that fill the room. The stage for the panels stuck out with large letters spelling out ‘cleancon’ with elegant chairs leading to the speakers. Sustainability was also present at the bar, where attendees were provided reusable metal cups that you could be taken home after the event. Throughout the convention, numerous seating areas and tables were thoughtfully scattered around the venue, providing comfortable spaces for attendees to settle down, network, and recharge. Staff members, distinguished by their green name tags, were readily available, offering assistance and guidance to ensure everyone's experience was seamless and enjoyable. CleanCon truly combined the elements of fun and professionalism, ensuring that every moment spent there was both enjoyable and enriching.
The 'Clean Con'nection to Skincare"
Located at the Social Market House in Los Angeles, Cleancon hosted numerous brands and companies, all approved with the EWG verified status. As EWG states, “EWG VERIFIED® recognizes products that meet EWG's strictest standards for your health. This means none of EWG's chemicals of concern. This means full transparency. This means a mark you can trust. It means EWG approved.” With various opportunities to hear more about the products, every representative provided many opportunities to chat and sample their products. Attendees gained valuable insights into the featured offerings, making their visit an educational and enriching experience. Some innovative products highlighted at the event include Shaklee’s range of anti-aging body care products, Safely’s multi-scented cleaning sprays, Aromanthi’s nasal inhaler essential oils, and Sonage’s personalized facial services. The experience left a lasting inspiration to discover new and emerging beauty brands that emphasized clean and sustainable beauty practices.
True 'Con'fessions of Health
One thing we all think about in relation to health and wellness: food. CleanCon’s commitment to advocating clean eating, placed a strong emphasis on promoting a health-conscious diet, supported by the different food vendors. The Plant Lab and Acai Me More offered an array of vegan sushi and smoothies. The ‘Pi roll’ (vegan salmon and spicy crab) was a surprising treat! What made this experience even more intriguing was the use of tapioca, a key ingredient that contributed to its taste. Seeing how these foods taste similar to “the real thing” also served as a compelling testament of crafting healthier and environmentally-friendly dishes that cater to the cravings of health-conscious people.
Let’s Talk ‘Clean Con’versations
This clean living festival wasn't just about shopping; it was also a hub for learning. Throughout the day, there were educational panels featuring industry experts and influencers. All the speakers were insightful and inspiring, offering bits of wisdom that guests could take home to make smarter, sustainable choices in their daily lives. In particular, EWG’s founder, Ken Cook, and Moby’s conversation provided valuable insights into veganism and the idea of the ‘dominant meat paradox’ (referring to the idea that you might love animals and their wellbeing- while also consuming them and hurting their wellbeing). Another panel discussed the importance of a holistic approach to beauty, emphasizing the connection between skincare, nutrition, and mental health. Influencers Hyram and Shea Coulee shared their insights into the beauty and skincare world, touching on the topic of diversity, ingredients, and how each industry can do better.
